Bob Mould “Keep Believing” Conan 10/29/12

If you need proof that getting old doesn’t have to mean giving up that punk rock energy, check out Bob’s performance on Conan from a couple days ago. Wow!

Bob Mould – “The Descent” – David Letterman 9-4-12

He’s recording a set on Austin City Limits too, so that should be interesting…stand by.

Copper Blue / Beaster / FU:EL Reissues
2012

Copper Blue

Beaster

File Under: Easy Listening

Technically, not “from Minnesota” but c’mon…it’s Bob Mould. Close enough. 20 years after Copper Blue was released, it’s getting a proper remastering and re-issue on Merge Records this year. Has it really been 20 years? Damn, I’m old!

I really liked Bob in the 80’s and 90’s. He lost me when he started with the techno stuff, but his other solo work isn’t that bad…but certainly can be hit or miss. For me though, Sugar is where Bob peaked. Two and a half albums of near perfect noisy pop music. Don’t get me wrong, Husker Du was an amazing band, and from what I’ve heard the biggest selling of the SST bands, but Sugar will always be just a little bit better to me.

If you haven’t picked up Bob’s book, it’s probably worth a read. After reading some of it though, my opinion of Bob changed a lot. Personally I think he comes off a bit full of himself, and kinda of a dick. But I guess given his accomplishments, maybe he deserves to be…who knows?

Finally, no mention of the Sugar re-issues would be complete without also asking the question: Where the hell are the Husker Du remasters/re-issues? That is definitely the downside of DIY punk.
