The Tsetsee Split

This is a split 7" from Dellwood’s pop-punk masters, the Porcelain Boys and Mankato’s Marble.  Released in 1996, this is an excellent document of mid-90’s melodic punk.  No one in Minnesota did it better than the PB’s.  Marble’s CD is also posted here, so check that out too.

This one comes complements of our friends at Wilfully Obscure .

Dillinger Four & The Strike

Rebels Choice

Great split from my former roommate THD records.  Two great bands, lots of solid rock.  EVeryone knows D4, but shortly before (or after, I forget) this split 7" was released, THe Strike moved to Chicago and put out a couple of albums as a three piece. Speaking of hte Strike, make sure you get their early demo tape on this same blog.  Search it out.

Oh, yes the artwork will say that it was Doin’ It For the Kids Records…..I was never sure why J.P. changed the name, but never fear…..this is classic THD records.

Compilation:  Things I stole EP

Great compilation featuring an awesome track from one of my favorite late-80’s/early 90’s punk bands, the Libido Boyz!  This is a different version of Mind’s Eye then I’ve heard before, so that’s a bonus!

Ten Cent Fun

Compilation: American Ska-thic

I don’t normally post compilations unless there is a strong Minnesota tie, but I was digging through my old cassette collection and stumbled on a demo of Ten Cent Fun from 1993. After hours of trying to get it recorded only to find that the real cassette deck eats tapes, and my laptop doesn’t want to accept a line in signal. Frustrated, I went looking through the interwebs, but this was the best I could do. The song on this comp, is from the demo tape, so that’s as good as it gets for now.

"a portrait of midwest ska" (1998)

2. I Hate Mornings – (The Exceptions)
3. Rude Girl – (Skolers)
4. Vasectomy – (Johnny Socko)

6. It’s Time – (International Jet Set)
7. Skankin’ In Moon Boots – (Ten Cent Fun)
8. Chuck Taylors – (Tom Collins & The Cocktail Shakers)
9. Trouble Again – (Skapone)
10. Grow Up – (Mustard Plug)
11. Down In Jamaica – (Heavy Manners)
12. G.I. Jump (Live) – (Erector Set)
13. Fleeba – (Mu 330)

Scumbait #2

Treehouse Records

As I said in my previous post, I was never much of a Treehouse guy.  I didn’t care for much of the music he put out.  I didn’t shop at the store very often (Orefolkjokopus at the time) because I thought Mark was kind of a dick, and like all record collectors that run record stores…he charged way too much for anything that he thought could one day be collectible.    In my mind, the best Treehouse record was the Bad Trip single (TR-001 if I remember correctly). Anyway, I’m off topic here….

Of the bands on this comp, I only recognize the Bastards as a MN group, but like I said…noise rock was not my thing, so maybe they all are.  I don’t know.  Leave a comment if you know more than I do (which wouldn’t be hard).

Treehouse Scumbait #2

Parade – The Bastards
Plymouth Car Is A Limosine – Feedtime
Day Will Come – Venom P Stinger
Drunks Theme – Drunks With Guns

I lifted this one (for the 3rd day in a row) from the AWESOME Last Days of Man on Earth 2.0 blog.

Lung Cookies Compilation

Smoke Seven/Your Flesh

The influence of Your Flesh was pretty heavy since almost half the bands are from Minnesota.  Classic early 80’s Minnesota punk from Final Conflict, Otto’s Chemical Lounge, Willful Neglect, Boy Elroy, Red Meat & Ground Zero.  Check this one out!

Kitten

Kitten

Reflex C.

The Kitten comp is one of the defining moments in the Minneapolis punk scene.  A document of the punk and hard core bands that put Minnesota on the map.  It has since been re-released on CD by Garage D’or Records .  It probably sounds a whole lot better than this tape ever did.   Once you sample the cassette, head over and buy the CD.

Once again, linked from the fabulous Download Underground site.  Head over and get this!
