My name is Dave, and I grew up in Minnesota listening to the many punk & hard core bands that I'm featuring here. More important though, is that I'm not just posting the stuff that like, but I'm making an attempt to document every band that had something to do with the punk scene in Minnesota. From your Husker Du & Replacements to Dirt Poor & the Kung Fools. Bands that played bars, and bands that played basements and garages. I'd like it all represented here.
I'd also like your help. I can't possible do it all by myself, so if you want to see something here, let me know. If you see something on the net that deserves a mention here, let me know. If you'd like to contribute, let me know.
If you are in a band that I've posted here, and you want your stuff removed, just ask, and it will be removed. Most of my posts are links to other people's posts. Some of it is from my personal record collection. It is my intent to only post stuff that you can not otherwise buy. Long out of print stuff. If I link to stuff that is in print, I will try to include a link to actually purchase it. That won't happen very often though, since I try to post only stuff that I know to be out of print. If the band has an official website, I'll try to post a link to it. If I get something wrong, or you'd like to contribute something, let me know.
All I ask is that you enjoy the crap I post and if you have any suggestions, send me an email at: webbastard at mnpunk.com
What can I say about Dirt Poor that I haven’t already said? If you dig this, seek out the video linked on this site to their moving truck show at the uptown bar! That was classic!
Follow the link to bandcamp where you can download their entire catalog for free.
These guys seem to have all the hype these days, being on Red Scare and playing with all the cool bands. I moved away from MN a few years back, but when I lived there…I knew them as the Drones. Seen them a few times and they were amazing.
How often do you go see a band you’ve never seen before and were instantly hooked? That’s my Drones/Tightwire story. I was in the Entry to see some other band and the Drones were opening. I’d never even heard of them before. About 4 songs in though, I knew they were the real deal. I went home that night and bought everything they had on Bandcamp. Then they seemed to fall off my radar….until Red Scare Toby started posting about this MPLS band called Tightwire.
First track and I knew it sounded familiar. Second track I suspected that this was one of the guys from Drones. Checked with some friends and found out that it was the Drones!Changed names just to ditch me as a fan. Solid marketing plan. Well, it didn’t work! Too bad guys, your stuck with me.
So, I stumbled on these guys because of the rad logo. I stuck to them because of the awesome 90’s pop punk influences that are all over these tracks. Super solid first ep. Give this a listen right f’n now! You’ll be hooked too.
This show was a big deal and no one really knew it at the time. I certainly didn’t, and I shot this! Dillinger Four’s first show. Kung Fools, Dirt Poor & Bombsite all played this night. What a lineup! All at a location, unknown to everyone that attended. If you wanted to go, you met up near the Uptown Bar and we all walked there together. How f’n rad was that?!??
See history in the making here!
This is another video that I shot but no longer have. Thanks to Tim Fool for giving this the light of day!
