Charlie Don’t Surf

Ode to Biff & Bob

The last in a string of YouTube posts this week.

Here’s what I remember from Charlie Don’t Surf. The Guitarist (Rod??) worked at First Ave in the early 90’s, and they played a ton of shows there. I’m not sure if I ever saw them play anywhere else…maybe a Sonic Warp show at the Avalon Theater…maybe. Right or wrong, I had them pegged in my mind as a band that played First Avenue a lot because one of more of them worked there. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the band can post some better info in the comments.

Dan Turnland worked at First Ave.

I believe the bassist’s name is Kurt, and he was a bouncer at the Uptown. Randy was the drummer, and I think he worked at First Ave too. He was the drummer for (MN Disturbed, and (sic) I believe as well).

    Hi people,
DanT says; CDS was Joel Elder-vocals, Curt Carter-bass(he worked at the Uptown bar), Randy Hawkins-drums, Mark Howard(Mach Fox)-guitar, and Dan Turnlund-guitar.
Randy and I worked at First Avenue for years. He still does, and I work at Lee’s Liquor Lounge.
Mark has fairly frequent gigs as Mach Fox.
Curt works for a fish wholesaler, and Joel has a radio show in Las Vegas Nevada, where he currently resides.
