Children of War 7″
I admit, I’ve been trolling the 7inch Crust blog today looking for nuggets of Minnesota Punk history. It’s hard to NOT find a lot of Misery. When a band has been around for 20+ years, putting out records, there’s bound to be a lot out there.
I’m old. I admit it. If you’re not old you probably won’t get this reference, but here goes: To me, Misery has always sounds like listening to an old Black Sabbath record at 16RPM. 🙂
I didn’t intend to post a full week of crust. Actually my intent was to find some metal. I started out over at Lockjaw, and eventually found my way to a solid week of 7inch Crust linking. I hope you’ve enjoyed it…if not, maybe next week will have something more your speed. If there is something you are looking for, or you have a blog and want me to link something up, let me know.

Next Time 7″
MNPunk is turning into MNCrust this week. More Misery. Seriously, I don’t know if enough can be stated about these guys. They’ve been doing it in this town for years, and they keep on doing it. Amazing.
Links to more Misery releases can also be found after the jump.

V/A – Bloodless Unreality
Destroy is a tough one for me to post, because most if not everything is still in print through Havoc. While that is awesome, it makes it difficult to include them in this documentation of the Minnesota punk scene. Since this was not released by havoc, I feel safe posting it, knowing that I’m not preventing a record from being sold.
Anyway, While the whole crust thing is something I’ve never really gotten into, I do love Destroy!. Probably because Felix is a great guy, I used to live with Mark at the THD house, and I’ve seen them play a million times. They were always fun to watch and Felix had some great topics to growl about…like burning down the Mall of America. Great stuff.
Destroy is obviously not the only band on this comp., but they do have the first two tracks, so enjoy them. I believe both of these songs are also available on a Discography CD/LP from Havoc. I could be wrong though.

Born, Fed…Slaughtered
If there were a grandfather of crust…the old man with crazy stories that you still see hanging around the neighborhood, it would be Misery. Easily the longest lasting crust band in Minneapolis, these guys have been around for years, and somehow they are still doing shows.
This record is probably their best known (to me anyway) and one of their earliest recordings (1989). This is a great rip, complete with all the scans. Grab it while you can.

Music For Killing Children
First demo cassette from EGFC.
I love those early cassette demo tapes from the 80’s….before CD’s and MP3’s, cassette tape demos and compilation tapes are how bands got their names around. Most bands did exactly what EGFC did, stuck a boom box in the corner of their parents basement while they rocked out their best tunes. Then they sold or gave away as many as they could to get the name around and hopefully get a show. I remember heading to the local record store (in my case Northern Lights, FlipSide or Cheapo) and checking out the band demos that sat on the counter. It might take a month to sell out a box of tapes, but it was fun.
Today bands just find a friend with a laptop and a bootlegged copy of ProTools, and they make a pretty slick sounding recording that they can post to a MySpace page for the whole world to hear. Times were different back then. Not that having a good sounding recording of your early material is bad, that part is great. But it’s almost too easy now. Anyone can start up a MySpace page in 10 minutes and get all their friends linked to it within a day. No effort. No cost. It’s all free.
Relive those old days with an old crappy demo tape. Done the way old crappy demo tapes were meant to be done.

Quality Punk Rock Since 1984
I apologize to Ollie Stench, who clued me into the posting weeks ago, and I somehow forgot to link it up.
Well, what can I say about the EGFC? A revolving door of friends that get together a few times every few years to play some old and new songs. They’ve been doing it for years.
Head on over to Frequency 7 and download this before Ollie comes to his senses and pull the post! 🙂

Nostalgic
Another MN band I know nothing about, but the folks over at Pop Punk’s Not Dead do…so I’m linking it up.

Shorelines
I’ve never heard of these guys, and know nothing about them. Still, our friends over at Pop Punk’s Not Dead posted it, so I’m linking it up.
