Assassin
Metal Massacre
Assassin billed themselves as "The Metal Knights". Cheezy 80’s speed metal band. Typical balls in a vice metal. I’m told this band evolved into T.H.C., which will be posted later this month.

January 1988 Demo
As you might have guess, I finally got my cassette deck working, so I could archive all the old demo tapes I’ve collected over the years.
6 song demo recorded in January of 1988. I knew Dennis from all the Oakdale parties. Death Squad played a show with them in Eau Claire, WI once that I remember road tripping to. They put out an album later in the year with some of these tracks on it…I assume rerecorded. I honestly haven’t listened that album in decades, this was before the album.

SIBD Demo 1991
I really don’t know much about this 3 piece thrash metal band from St. Paul. It was either given to me because I had a record label, or because of cable access shows I used to do. I honestly don’t remember why. If you know something about the band, post it in the comments.
Just found out that one of the members was/is also in Ferd Mert .

KFAI Interview from 1985
Lets start by saying that, yes I know the DK’s are not a Minnesota band. This was however recorded off of KFAI, a week or so after the legendary DK/Husker Du/Otto’s Chemical Lounge show at the St. Paul Armory. The interview was with East Bay Ray & Clause Floride. The discuss the heavy hitting topics of the day like "Will there ever be a DK music video". Great stuff. If you’re an old timer, or a DK fan, this will be worth a listen. Someone please tell me what show I recorded this from….I’m thinking Lowe Down.
I can’t believe I was able to rip this. I recorded this on the cheapest cassette you’ve ever seen, and much to my surprise, 25 years later, it still works. So many of the cassettes I had from back in this era were cheap and would squeal or just plain lock up and not play. This one went through without an issue though.
After you listen to it, please post your comments!

The Bubba Years
The Bubba years is a compilation of Death Squad’s first 4 demo tapes and a few tracks from a cable access video I shot of the band from 1986-1990. This was compiled and mastered July 10-11, 1998 from 10 year old demo tapes and the cassette master of "Casting…" (Which I released for the band).
The Death Squad guys are long time friends of mine. I released everything they did from 1990 until the band broke up. I also put up their MySpace page.
First Demo, 1986
Second Demo, 1987
Reach Out And Kill Someone, 1988
Casting A New Light On Corn, 1990
Cable Access Video, 1989 or 1990
Johnny Strad posted a rip of one of the demos over on the lockjaw blog, but these rips are about as good as it will get and pretty all-inclusive. CD artwork is included. What are you waiting for?

Better than the last
This is a great record! Most people know Scooby Don’t because it was Billy Moresette’s pre-Dillinger Four band. That’s unfortunate, because Scooby Don’t did a lot for the punk scene. Their house, "The 35th St. Entry", was a mainstay for great traveling punk bands. This record was recorded before Billy joined the band.
The guys in Scooby Don’t were from Schwano, WI. They moved here to go to the U of M and rock if I remember correctly. 🙂

Compilation: Things I stole EP
Great compilation featuring an awesome track from one of my favorite late-80’s/early 90’s punk bands, the Libido Boyz! This is a different version of Mind’s Eye then I’ve heard before, so that’s a bonus!

No music this time, just a great interview with Matt Henderson from Blind Approach. Well worth the read.

Compilation: American Ska-thic
I don’t normally post compilations unless there is a strong Minnesota tie, but I was digging through my old cassette collection and stumbled on a demo of Ten Cent Fun from 1993. After hours of trying to get it recorded only to find that the real cassette deck eats tapes, and my laptop doesn’t want to accept a line in signal. Frustrated, I went looking through the interwebs, but this was the best I could do. The song on this comp, is from the demo tape, so that’s as good as it gets for now.
