Ollie Stench and the Humbugs

self titled Christmas EP

How great is this?  Post #200 on Christmas day…and it’s a Christmas EP!

Ollie Stench is a veteran of the MPLS punk scene.  He was the final singer for the infamous Iron Fist.  He played bass for the Subversives.  He currently sings for Gash and The Ed Gein Fanclub.  He is also the bartender for the wildly popular Drinking With Ian TV show. Some bands that he has also been involved in are; The Dive Bomb Honeys, Trapazoids & Chinamen….I’m sure there are others too.  The MN Punk scene owes a debt of gratitude to this man.

So a couple of years ago Ollie decided to record a Christmas record, with that special Ollie Stench slant.  This 2 song master piece tells it the way it is.  The Christmas that everyone knows, and no one talks about.  Stop reading and grab the theme song to your Christmas now!

How did I miss these ladies for so long?   Lori was/is a staple in the Minneapolis scene, and has been for as long as I can remember.  I remember her tending bar at the Uptown in her pre-Babes days….she was everywhere though.  In the 90’s it was tough to go somewhere in Minneapolis, and not see her.

Although they got swept up in the grunge scene, and eventually signed to Warner Bros. (much like the Huskers did years earlier), I don’t think anyone would have ever hung the “sell out” label on them.   Catchy as hell angry chick rock.  Right on.

Boneclub

From the early to the end.  This must have been one of the final lineups.  No original members other than Andrew.  The arrangements of the old songs seem to be different.  Honestly, not much to like here for me, but a good contrast from the early days (yesterdays post) to the last days (this post).  This is part 1 of 9 that I believe make a complete show.  Seek out the rest of the show and decide for yourself.

Update:  I just found some pictures online of yet another different lineup, playing in St. Paul in 2009….maybe they still play occasionally?  I don’t know.

Boneclub

Twin Cities grunge rockers, from their 1989 debut album.

Apple

More from Boneclub. This time from their second album, the Beautiflu EP that eventually got them signed to Imago.

Everythings on Fire

I could talk endlessly about how great Pat & Dacey are. I went to High School with Pat. Dacey seemed to be at every high school house party, so it really was no surprise that he and Pat got a band together. Two really great guys.  Every Boneclub show was a mini-high school reunion for me.

Dacey is apparently now doing comedy in Chicago, and is part of some kind of childrens TV show. (ask the Bing, I don’t have a link) Last I heard Pat was either running or owned a restaurant on Grand Ave. in St. Paul.
